This Year's Model Updates:

Half-ton models now feature standard Hydroboost brakes, a tire-pressure monitoring system and newly styled optional 17-inch aluminum wheels. The trailering package now includes a 7-to-4-pin brake wiring adapter. For added safety, there is now a front passenger seatbelt reminder. Also, a sunroof and rear-seat entertainment system can be ordered together for the first time. Lastly, GMC has lowered the output figures for the Vortec 8100 -- the engine is now rated at 320 horsepower and 440 pound-feet of torque.

Pros:
  • Huge interior space, strong lineup of V8 engines, Quadrasteer four-wheel steering system, extensive list of available features.
Cons:
  • Some cheap interior materials considering the price, questionable build quality.

  • Comfy truck - 2004 GMC Yukon XL

Im used to GMs full-sized trucks, owning a pair of pickups in the past (a 97 and 01 model). Knowing that the cabin is the same foreward of the driver seat of the 01, I wasnt expecting much of a change, but it really is much more comfy - probably due more to the suspension than anything. The seats even feel better than my 01 Silverado. The 6.0 is a MUCH better engine than the 5.3 or the 350, as it feels much stronger while being even more smooth.

WITHIN THE FIRST 1000 MILES I ENCOUNTERED PROBLEM WITH THE GEARS WHICH WAS REPLACED BY THE DEALER AT NO COST BUT SHOOK MY CONFIDENCE IN THE CAR. I HAD TO GO BACK 3 TIMES BEFORE THEY CORRECTED THE PROBLEM. NOW I AM HEARING ANOTHER CLICKING NOISE FROM THE FRONT. CONFIDENCE???????? IT IS VERY SMOOTH CAR TO RUN AND EASY TO HANDLE. I WISH THEY WOULD PAY MORE ATTENTION IN ENSURING THAT ALL SYSTEMS WORK PROPERLY AT THE FIRST TIME AND CONSUMERS DONT FEEL, MAY BE, THEY GOT A LEMON?? I STILL LOVE THIS CAR.

  • Lets be honest - 2004 GMC Yukon XL

I really like my Yukon XL. But it doesnt show up in the ratings. Its better than the Sequoia/Expedition types because of the cargo space behind the third seat and the ability to tow. I had a 97 Suburban and this new unit is much improved in ride and engine. But its the size coupled with the ease of operation that makes it the king of the road. It remains to be seen if reliability is any better - the Suburban was a little weak, but not so weak I didnt get another GM.

  • Stole one on Ebay - 2004 GMC Yukon XL

I bought this truck used for $22K on Ebay in Dec 06 with 42K miles on it. It has nav, DVD, and the sunroof and has run for almost another 40K miles with very few problems. It is powerful, fun to drive, and is great for a family of 5 but drinks gas like crazy. For 22K invested I cant complain.

  • Nice truck, GPS is abysmal - 2004 GMC Yukon XL

This is my first GMC vehicle. I am impressed with the performance and reliability. Very roomy. However, you should be warned that it is always thirsty for gas. I was sold on the GPS and was looking forward to using it. Unfortunately, it is cumbersome to use. I called the dealer for assistance and the technician admitted that it was a waste of money to purchase the GPS and that it was very poor. Hopefully, they improve this substantially.

  • What did you expect? - 2004 GMC Yukon XL

I have read many reviews about these vehicles. Its great as far as I can see. The brakes are much improved from my former 1999. The interior is upgraded, the fuel economy is much better, improved 2-3 mpg in city and local. people complain about the gas mileage, buy a minivan. They complain about acceleration, buy a Porsche Cayenne. Nothing beats the overall experience of owning and driving a GMC Yukon XL. This is the 4th one have bought. Previously I had a 1995, 1999 and a 2001. They are great vehicles that do not need an excuse.

Lots of room in the trunk AND passenger area. Drives like a car, not like a pickup truck. Much better than our last people mover (a 4 yr. old Suburban). Was impressed with the improvements.

  • This is a great truck - 2004 GMC Yukon XL

I have owned this car for just over 6 months now. I use it for my daily commute and to get around on weekends. It is a pleasure to drive and is surprisingly quick and response for something of this size. It has tons of space for all those things you never knew youd need to carry until you have kids. The sound from the DVD player is great. My only regret is that I got the 2003 rather than waiting for 2004. This meant deciding between a sunroof and the DVD player.

  • Best Vehicle I have ever owned - 2004 GMC Yukon XL
    By -

My 2004 Yukon XL is just about perfect. The only trouble was with the exhaust popping noise (which is a common problem with the 2004 models). The dealer fixed it by replacing the entire exhuast system. I am getting 13.5 mpg city and 19 highway which isnt too bad for its size and hauling capacity. Although it recently is costing me over $60.00 to fill up this bad boy, the ride is great and will plow through even the toughest of snow drifts up here in the midwest. The only regret is not getting the autoride suspension.
